There are perfume houses that choose a location as a mere backdrop. OJAR makes the opposite move: it starts from Oman and transforms its raw materials, landscapes, and memories into a contemporary olfactory language.
The name is derived from Hojari, the prized incense harvested in the Dhofar mountains. It is not just a geographical reference. It is the key to understanding a project where East and West are not contrasted, but brought into dialogue.
From Oman to a perfumery without borders
OJAR was founded by Sheikha Hind Bahwan. Her vision combines the Sultanate’s cultural heritage, its landscapes, and its perfume traditions with international experience and expertise.
The house collaborates with perfumers from different backgrounds to create fragrances with a recognizable signature. The result is not a folkloric representation of Oman, but a current reading: luminous, textural, and capable of changing register.
It is precisely this tension between roots and movement that makes OJAR interesting. Each composition maintains a bond with the material, but avoids reducing it to a single image.
Six materials, six gateways
The OJAR universe is organized around six collections inspired by as many materials: frankincense, rose, honey, sandalwood, musk, and oud.
Three have a particularly direct relationship with the Omani territory. Frankincense refers to the Dhofar mountains; rose to the heights of Jebel Akhdar; honey to Rustaq. Sandalwood, musk, and oud complete the palette and open the narrative toward a broader perfumery, traversed by both Eastern and Western sensibilities.
Frankincense
In the Frankincense collection, frankincense is not necessarily dark or liturgical. It can become mineral, spicy, ambery, or more luminous. Encens Cuivre is an eloquent entry point: incense meets warm, metallic nuances, with a clear but not static presence.
Rose and honey
The Jebel Akhdar rose introduces a floral dimension that can be velvety, fresh, or sensual. Rustaq honey, on the other hand, brings density and gourmand light without having to become simply sweet. In Halwa Kiss, the gourmand inspiration intertwines with spices, dried fruit, and enveloping tones.
Sandalwood, musk, and oud
Sandalwood builds creamy, woody depth; musk works on the skin, on softness and persistence; oud introduces a darker, more structured material. Wood Whisper and Oud Whisper show two different ways of interpreting wood: the former more intimate and polished, the latter more intense and profound.
Eau de Parfum and Absolute: two gestures to layer
One of the distinctive elements of OJAR is the dialogue between Eau de Parfum and Absolute Perfume Oil. The spray creates a more diffused trail; the oil, applied to pulse points, offers an experience closer to the skin.
They can be worn separately or layered. Layering is not just about increasing intensity: it allows you to change the rhythm, texture, and nuances of the fragrance. It is a personal gesture, close to the Middle Eastern tradition of perfume and at the same time perfectly contemporary.
